Why Christians Should Seriously Think About Entrepreneurship
As Christians, we are called to use our talents and resources to serve others and glorify God. One way we can do this is by becoming entrepreneurs and starting our own businesses.
One example of a successful entrepreneur in the Bible is the woman in 2 Kings 4 who was in dire financial straits. She turned to the prophet Elisha for help, and he instructed her to gather empty jars and pour oil from a small jar into them. The oil kept flowing, filling all the jars and providing her with enough sales and money to pay off her debts and live off the surplus. He told her to start a business, and she did. This story illustrates how God can bless our efforts and provide for us in unexpected ways when we use our resources and gifts for His glory.
Becoming an entrepreneur also allows us to create jobs and provide for others. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the parable of the talents, where a master entrusts his servants with money to invest and grow. The servants who put their talents to work and gained more were praised, while the one who buried his talent and did nothing was condemned. As business owners, we have the opportunity to use our resources and skills to create opportunities for others and make a positive impact in our communities.
Additionally, owning a business can lead to financial wealth. Proverbs 13:22 states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous." By being wise stewards of our resources and working hard, we can not only provide for ourselves and our families, but also leave a legacy for future generations.
Of course, becoming an entrepreneur is not without its challenges and risks. However, as Christians, we can trust in God's provision and guidance, and use our businesses as a way to serve Him and others. As we seek to glorify God in our work and use our resources for His kingdom, we can trust that He will bless our efforts and provide for us in ways we never imagined.
